R.I.P. Sid Haig

Famed character actor Sid Haig, best known for his role as Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie’s “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects” among many other roles in an extensive multi-decade career, has passed away at the age of 80.

Haig’s wife Susan L. Oberg made the announcement via Instagram, revealing his passing after an extended hospital stay.

Haig’s began acting with exploitation filmmaker Jack Hill and worked in films like “Coffy” and “Foxy Brown”. Haig went on to appear in a number of television shows including “Star Trek,” “Batman,” “The Untouchables,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” “Gunsmoke,” “Get Smart,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Dukes of Hazard,” “The A-Team,” “Hill Street Blues,” “MacGyver” and more.

Haig retired in the 1990s, but was coaxed out for Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” and worked with him again on “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” along with S. Craig Zahler’s “Bone Tomahawk” and multiple Rob Zombie films including his last on-screen appearance in this year’s “3 From Hell”. That film played for a limited three-night run earlier this month and grossed nearly $2 million, popular enough that it will return for a fourth showing on October 14th.
